BACKGROUND
Toplofikatsia Varna (Varna Thermal Power Plant) was established in 1986 with scope of activities: "Heat energy production and supply".
In 1992, the business company of Toplofikatsia Varna EOOD was organized as a separate legal person outside the structure of Varna Thermal Power Plant.
1997 – 2007: MODERNIZATIONS AT THE HEATING COMPANY
The years from 1997 to 2007 mark a period of modernization of the heating company where a number of innovations have been made by successfull utilization of European funds under the PHARE Program granted by the World Bank, and under a program funded by the Dutch government.
In that period, the first co-generation installation for heat and electricity in Bulgaria was constructed, based on engines fueled by natural gas.
As a result of that, the work of the Company team was noticed and in 2002 and 2004 the Company was awarded twice by the Ministry of Econony with an honorary diploma for highest results achieved among the heat supply companies, and in 2002 the Chamber of Power Engineers appointed the Director Mr. Iliya Nikolaev as the Power Engineer of the year.
2007 – 2014: PRIVATIZATION AND PROGRESS
A new era in the development of Toplofikatsia Varna commenced upon its privatization in 2007. The Company was aqcuired by Dalkia International –the largest company for energy services in Europe, which manages over 800 heating systems worldwide with staff of 52 200 persons and an annual turnover exceeding 8 billion Euros.
In June 2008 the Company was officially renamed to Dalkia Varna EAD.
During these years, Dalkia imposed new standards in management of its activity and of work with customers, and highly improved the services provided in Varna.
More than 19 million BGN was invested in renovation of the production capacities, the heat transmission network and the substations.
2014 – to nowadays: A NEW ERA
In 2014, Dalkia International was acquired at 100% by the VEOLIA Group, and was renamed to Veolia Energy International.
Following the changes within the Company and the “ONE VEOLIA“ conception, in July 2015 the Company was officially renamed to Veolia Energy Varna EAD.
Today, we of Veolia Energy Varna have the ambition to preserve what was achieved so far, and built on it further using the professionalism and creativity of our team in order to make Varna and the region a better place to live.
